Tummy tuck

Tummy Tuck Surgery (abdominoplasty) - removes both excess fat and loose, stretched skin from the abdomen.

Diet and exercise can help you lose fat and build muscle but it cannot restore lost skin elasticity.  Skin elasticity gradually decreases as we age.  The abdominal muscle tissue can also be stretched or separated, especially during pregnancy.

Reasons for Considering Tummy Tuck Surgery:

Frustrated with a flabby, protruding abdomen.
Tighten the underlying abdominal musculature.
Boost confidence by removing lingering fat deposits.
Desire for a trimmer waistline or elimination of love handles.

Best Candidates for Tummy Tuck Surgery:
The best candidates for Tummy Tuck surgery are healthy adult men and women that have excess or loose skin around the abdomen.  This can be caused by pregnancy, aging, heredity and significant weight gain or loss.  For women, Tummy Tuck surgery is best for those who are done having children.

General Procedure:
During surgery you will be placed on general anesthesia.  The incision will be made fairly low so that the scar will be as discreet as possible.  Dr. Varon will remove the excess fat and skin and shape a more desirable contour in your abdomen area.   He will also tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall to give a more toned appearance.  After the surgery is complete, Dr. Varon will close the incisions and apply special bandages.  You will be placed in a compression garment to minimize swelling and improve recovery.

Recovery Process:
The abdomen is usually sore, swollen and bruised for the first few weeks after a Tummy Tuck Surgery.  Patients sometimes report some pain associated with the surgery.  This pain can be treated effectively with oral medication.  You will need to wear a compression garment for several weeks after surgery to minimize swelling and support the healing tissues.  This can be worn under clothing.  Most patients are back to work in one week.  You will need to wait at least 4 weeks before exercising or heavy lifting.  While complications are rare, patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the directions given by Dr. Varon after surgery.
