Breast Lift

Breast Lift Surgery (Mastopexy) -  is a surgical procedure that contours sagging breasts, giving them a lifted and more youthful appearance.

Breast lift surgeries are usually performed with a breast augmentation or a breast reduction surgery, a mastopexy focuses on tightening the skin and reducing sagging.

Reasons for Considering Breast Lift Surgery:
Give the breasts a more youthful appearance.
Lift sagging breasts.
Remove excess skin and place the nipples in a higher position.
Create a more contoured appearance.

Best Candidates for Breast Lift Surgery:
The best candidates for breast lift surgery are healthy women who have significant sagging and who also desire more youthful and shapelier breasts.  By combining breast augmentation and breast lift procedures, the implants will enhance the appearance of the breasts and their fullness.

General Procedure:
Since there are different degrees of sagging, there are variations in breast lifting surgery procedures.  For mild sagging or ptosis, the incision may be just around the areola.  For those with moderate sagging the incision may be longer and continue from the areola to the breast fold.  Fortunately, with time the incisions will fade and are hidden in the fold of the breasts and the border of the areolas.

Breast lift surgeries are outpatient and usually take about one hour.  Through the incisions, Dr. Varon will reposition the nipple-areola to a higher area on the breasts. Then he will remove extra skin and extra areola, if necessary.  Finally, he will reshape the breasts to a symmetrical and more pleasing contour.  If combined with an augmentation, he will create a pocket in the chest wall and insert the implant.  Afterwards you will be stitched up and wrapped in a special gauze and placed in a surgical bra.

Recovery Process:
Generally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and recovery time.  A surgical bra will need to be worn for a few weeks.  Patients sometimes report minor pain associated with the surgery.  This pain can be treated effectively with oral medication.  Most patients are back to work in about one or two weeks.  While complications are rare, patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the directions given by Dr. Varon after surgery.
